National Coaches Day: Flashback To Sam Harris’ Lions Lesson
Happy National Coaches Day to all the amazing rugby coaches out there giving back to our great game of rugby.
In establishing National Coaches Day Richard Nixon said, “Coaches are highly qualified teachers—in highly specialized fields. But more than that, they are friends and counselors who help instill in their player’s important attitudes that will serve them all their lives.”
On National Coaches Day, we flashback to the playing days of AG’s head coach Sam Harris; a memorable try and an unforgettable lesson he learned against the British & Irish Lions in 2001.
A match that will forever be remembered as ‘the Waratahs War’, after five yellow cards and one red card were handed out in the match. More than the try and the cards, what Harris remembers most is the ‘glaring red’ of the Lions and that that legendary touring squad “they leave no stone unturned” in their preparation.
Harris carries with him that lesson to this day and looks forward to carrying a high-standard of preparation to the AG’s ahead of the 2021 season.
The 2021 Season is set to kick off March 20th, 2021!
