Uruguayan International, Rodrigo Silva signs with Austin Elite Rugby
ROUND ROCK (TX) – Austin Elite Rugby is excited to officially announce the signing of Uruguayan international, Rodrigo Silva. Uruguay’s starting Fullback will be joining countrymen Juan Echeverria and Andres Vilaseca in Austin for the 2019 Major League Rugby season.
The 26-year-old is from Montevideo, Uruguay and played club rugby for Carrasco Polo Club at the Campeonato Uruguayo de Rugby. He is a veteran rugby player, with more than 50 international appearances for Los Terros since his debut in 2012. Of those 52 matches, he started in 42 of them. In 2015 he was capped for his first World Cup.
Silva is a monster in the backline, he has been capped in every single back position, with the exception of center. He was first brought on to Los Teros as a utility back, but has found his home in the #15 jersey. Austin Elite Rugby first sited Rodrigo Silva at the World Rugby combine held in Glendale, Colorado. Head Coach Alain Hyardet was impressed with his control and impact on the field after seeing him score two tries against the Glendale Raptors in just the second half of the match.
Our coaching staff is looking forward to Silva bringing his experience and level of game play to our backline. Here is what our Backs Coach, CJ De Wet has to say, “Silva is another quality player from the americas rugby combine. His ball playing, strong boot and ability to dictate the game really excited the coaching staff. He will immediately help to raise the quality of our side.”
Welcome, Rodrigo to the Lone Star State!
