MLR WEEK 9 WRAP-UP
Utah Warriors 27 – 29 Houston SaberCats
The Houston SaberCats got back in the win column for the second time this season with a 29-27 win over the Utah Warriors on Thursday evening.
The 29 points that the SaberCats (2-5) put up to defeat the Warriors (1-4-1) marked their highest point total of the season. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, Utah closed the cap and tied the match at 20 at the half. Houston fly-half Sam Windsor, who hit all five of his penalty kicks and nailed both of his conversions, secured the victory with three penalty kicks in the second half. He led all scorers with 19 points.
Houston picked up a valuable four points in the victory to reach 10 points in the league table and jump over the Warriors into seventh place. The Warriors picked up a bonus point in the loss. Their eight points in the league table leave them in eighth place.
The Warriors will look to get back on track on Saturday, March 30 when they host the Toronto Arrows (3-4) while the SaberCats will enjoy a week off.
Austin Elite Rugby 31 – 35 NOLA Gold
NOLA Gold used a last-second try to defeat Austin Elite Rugby 35-31 on Saturday afternoon.
NOLA (6-1) used five tries from five different players, including one from Michael Baska in the 79th minute, to knock off the Elite (0-8) and keep them winless on the season. Gold captain and fullback J.P. Eloff and Elite fullback Soheyl Jaoudat each tallied 10 points for their side.
Austin picked up two bonus points in the league table for the first time since Week 3. Their four points on the season leaves them in eighth place while the five points that the Gold picked up in the leaves them in first place in the league table with 31 points on the season.
NOLA will travel to Glendale for a big tilt with the Raptors (3-3-2) on Saturday, March 30 while Austin will look to continue their points streak when they host Rugby United New York (6-1).
