Honoring The Austin Valkyries: National Girls and Women In Sports Day

On National Girls and Women in Sports Day we’re highlighting the local powerhouse women’s rugby club, the Austin Valkyries, and their contribution to our community and the sport of rugby.

The Valkyries are Division 1 juggernauts and perennial contenders; ranked #2 nationally. The Valkyries are the only women’s club in the state of Texas to field both division I and division II sides. In 2019, both the Valkyries squads qualified for the USA Rugby National Championship. Both teams advanced to the Elite Eight, and the division 1 side eventually defeated three nationally-ranked women’s programs on the way to the National final.

Beyond excelling on the pitch, the Valkyries are recognized in the greater Austin community for their commitment to service. They are a united bunch, gracious hosts, and undeniably inclusive. Most notably, these women are thoroughly committed to growing rugby and uniquely passionate in teaching the game to adults and youth alike.

The AGs are proud to have a team of upstanding women like the Valkyries uplifting the name, reputation, and ideals of rugby in the Austin Community.
