Cam Dodson Teams Up With Austin Huns and Room2Hope For Community Service Effort

Today the AGs are proud to highlight one of our humble AG players for his commitment to service in the greater Austin community. Throughout November and early December, AG first-year player Cameron Dodson volunteered for non-profit initiative Room2Hope to help renovate worn, shabby victim waiting rooms in the greater Austin area courthouses into comfortable, hope-filled spaces.

“For me, at first it was an opportunity to help out this community I am now a part of, so I jumped at it,” says Cameron Dodson. “But the more you hear about what Denise and Room2Hope are trying to do- it’s like really, truly impactful stuff.”

Under the leadership of Room2Hope founder Denise Fonseca, the initiative set off on their first of a potentially hundreds of transformations to take place in the coming months and years with ambitions of transforming waiting rooms across all 254 Texas counties. Shoulder to shoulder with Austin Huns, Robert Escalante and Ryan Borowsky, AG’s newcomer Cameron Dodson selflessly dove into the renovation efforts at the Hays County Government Center waiting room this past weekend.

“As I worked with Robert, Ryan, and Cam these rugby players became the embodiment of the core Room2Hope value of ‘decency’. They just came to ‘play’ with the heart; these are modest, hard-working, gracious men, that never have a single complaint. They assembled and moved heavy furniture, hung endless pieces of decor, and helped out with other chores in every way they could. Between them, the Huns and the AGs represented 80% of the labor force.”

“Cam is Room2Hope’s own ‘Gentle Giant.’ A really big man who is so comfortable in his own skin that he is not afraid to be kind and sensitive. To have these powerful men dedicated to helping the ‘bruised and broken’ members of our community is simply quite breath-taking. They made the game of rugby proud!”

Room2Hope’s mission statement is clear: “A victim’s mental state when they enter a courtroom has a profound effect on their ability to recall events with composure at this crucial moment in their Justice journey. Room 2 Hope is dedicated to helping Victims find this composure.”
