Austin Elite Rugby signs Argentinian Center, JP Aguirre from Lindenwood University
JP Aguirre started his rugby career at the age of 12 with Club Champagnat in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he grew up. He worked himself up the Argentinian circuit, representing his province at the U18 level. He went on to be part of the U20 Argentinian national team, Los Pumitas, winning the SUD Championship against Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil in 2013. He also suited up for the Los Pumitas in the 2013 Junior Rugby World Cup.
Later on, JP journeyed overseas to Lindenwood University in pursuit of earning his degree and to play rugby with the nationally recognized D1 men’s team. During his time spent at Lindenwood University, JP earned many All-American nominations and was named on the CRC Sevens Dream Team in 2018. He played a key part in Lindenwood’s D1 Sevens National Championship win last year.
The summer of 2018, he moved out to Colorado to play under Steve Lewis at Bulldog Rugby. Winning the D1 Men’s Club Sevens Championship in New York. Aguirre played with Tiger Rugby in the RugbyTownUSA Sevens tournament.
JP was a standout player at the World Rugby combine held in Glendale last year.
“Having had a successful stint at college powerhouse Lindenwood University, we had no doubt that JP could make an immediate impact for us this season and for the foreseeable future,” said Backs Coach CJ De Wet. “His drive to be the best, his optimism, and laser-like focus make him a player with tremendous potential. We look forward to his on-field contribution for the remainder of the season.”
