Ascension Seton Performance of The Night: Michael De Waal
The Ascension Seton Performance of the Night goes to a guy that’s been asked to carry a heavy load for the team through the first five weeks. He’s made a seamless transition from lock to No. 8 and then back to lock again.
Saturday Night’s Performance of the Night goes to Michael De Waal, who looked to be in peak form at lock; entering 48 rucks on the night. De Waal was able to secure AG ball 40 times on the night and slow down the opposition ball 8 times on the defensive end of the ruck. That kind of work rate doesn’t always show up on the highlight reel but it does not go unnoticed to his team.
De Waal’s performance certainly didn’t go unnoticed to AG Head Coach Sam Harris, “Mikey’s been a guy that’s filled a different role for us every week at lock and No. 8 - which is tough to do, and every week he gets up and performs his role for us and if we didn’t have him we wouldn’t be in the position we are,” says Harris. “He was busy and he was everywhere and as always he made a lot of tackles and hit a lot of rucks.”
