All Black’s Winger Frank Halai joins Austin Gilgronis
Austin Gilgronis is proud to announce the signing of All Blacks winger Frank Halai.
Born in Pangai, Tonga, Halai and his family moved to Auckland, New Zealand where he attended Wesley College in Paerata, home to 11 All Blacks including the great Jonah Lomu. Frank joined Waikato and was part of Counties Manukau, 2012 ITM Cup Championship team.
In 2011, Halai was selected to the All Blacks Sevens squad, Frank scored 30 tries and 150 points which saw New Zealand winning the series. In 2013, Halai made his Super Rugby debut for the Auckland Blues against the Hurricanes. He went on to earn 38 Super Rugby caps and ended the season as the competition’s leading try-scorer. Frank is known for his try-scoring and ability to beat defenders, which saw him being awarded his first All Black cap in 2013.
2015 saw Frank head north to join Aviva Premiership side Wasps in Coventry, England. Halai made a big impact during his time in England, scoring 12 tries in 25 appearances. In May 2017, Frank crossed the English Channel to join PAU where he played in the French Top 14 and European Rugby Challenge Cup.
“I am very excited to have signed Frank Halai from PAU” said Todd Clever, Austin Gilgronis’s Director of Rugby. “He is a world-class player and has world-class experience. He knows how to compete and knows how to win. MLR fans should really get excited to see his finishing capabilities. “
