AG Rugby Signs Flanker Ronan Murphy

AG Rugby is thrilled to announce the signing of flanker Ronan Murphy. Murphy was a collegiate standout at St. Mary’s and Collegiate All-American in 2020, he looks forward to making an impact in the loose forwards for Austin.

Murphy is delighted to join the squad. “I am excited for the opportunity to play professional rugby in the states and grow the game. This team has been very welcoming and I want to contribute to their success in any way I can.”

Murphy joins the AGs by way of Trinity College rugby club in Ireland and is excited to compete for playing time with the AGs in Major League Rugby. Head Coach Sam Harris believes Murphy will be a solid addition to the AG backrow.

“Ronan comes a bit more under-the-radar, he’s a great talent and has a great frame on him,” says Harris. “He wants to play footy, get his hands on the ball and to tackle guys that are running hard, and create opportunities. I love those kinds of guys, we have a lot of them in our club and he’ll be a great addition.”

Murphy joins the AGs on the same day as his collegiate teammate Payton Telea-Ilalio, the duo look to inject energy into a best-in-the-west AG team as the team makes a playoff push.

Sam Harris speaks on the AG’s young core. “Both Payton and Ronan joining the young brigade of this team will take the AG’s into future success, both come from St. Mary’s and both have been coached by our own Brendan O’Meara and he’s spoken highly of their play, character, and work ethic and I’m excited to see them perform Saturday night.”
