AG Rugby Signs Crossover Athlete David Still
AUSTIN, TX (June 11, 2021) AG Rugby is delighted to announce the signing of outside back David Still. Still transitioned to rugby following a college football career at Saginaw Valley State University. Over the last four months Still has been training with the Colorado XOs rugby academy in Glendale, learning the tools of the professional rugby trade. He’ll look to make an impact with the AGs right away.
“I’m just excited to be a part of this team and be able to show what I can do,” says Still. “I’ve been trying to soak up all that I can this week and I’ll continue to do that throughout this season.”
AG Head Coach Sam Harris is giving Still an immediate opportunity to show what he can do as in selecting the newcomer to the roster for this Saturday’s match against Toronto. He’ll wear the #23 jersey in the AG’s final home match of the season.
“Mark [Gerrard] and I really liked the raw athletic ability David has and the speed threat he could present for the opposition,” says AG Head Coach Sam Harris. “So we felt we’d bring him up to speed on the team pattern this week and let him stretch his legs on Saturday.”
David Still comes from the RugbyTown crossover academy at Infinity Park in Glendale. The goal of the program is to inject the national player pool with elite athletes and untapped talent and ultimately help the USA Eagles win the Rugby World Cup. After five months in the full-time high-performance training environment Still has graduated to the ranks of Major League Rugby. Still is the second of four Colorado XO players signed to MLR rosters in the last two months. Colorado XO’s Program Director Mark Bullock says, “David Still is a great talent and an individual with exceptional character who has a strong work ethic and desire to improve. David is very dangerous with the ball in hand and a sure tackler. David’s signing validates that we are on the right path. And, our vision for developing elite athletes to crossover rugby players can be accomplished in a relatively short time if you have the correct athletes.”
Welcome to the AGs, David Still!
