AG Rugby Pushes The Limits With Ascension Seton Sports Performance Testing
This week, the AGs underwent sports performance testing to get baseline data on the incoming AG Rugby squad ahead of the 2022 season.
This week’s measurements will give the performance team metrics to uncover and address weaknesses and asymmetries ahead of the 18-week MLR season.
As Lead Sports Scientist for Ascension Seton Sports Performance Jake Allen is thrilled “to deliver state-of-the-art testing to the AG Rugby athletes. Our performance tests use research-backed strategies to obtain actionable performance insights; through these insights, we can optimize strength and conditioning to address any deficiencies in energy systems or strength asymmetries that the athletes may present. We chose these tests to accurately reflect the physiological demands of a rugby match, and allow for objective data to guide our decision-making process. This year we are expanding our offerings to cover the range of performance needs with even greater depth, in addition to adding more comprehensive injury prevention screening.”
The AG’s performance team will then be able to make adjustments to the individual athlete’s programs based on the data to improve player performance and reduce the risk of injury.
AG Rugby Head of Performance Simon Thomas has a wealth of experience in optimizing rugby team performance; helping the world’s winningest rugby club, the Crusaders, to four Super Rugby Championships before joining the AGs in 2021. “Our aim is to set a whole new standard for integrated performance and medical support for our players. We’re investing significant time and effort into finding specific areas for every player, so we can take an individualized focus on their performance and injury prevention programming moving forward.”
Thanks to our partners at Ascension Seton, the AGs will be optimized for performance in 2022!
